Welcome to Mrs Dogsbody

IMDT Force free trainer

Dog Training College Scentwork Instructor

Hi, I'm Karen and I have to admit that I'm a bit dog mad!

Many years ago, a neighbour, asked me to take her dog for a walk. She had been let down by her dog walker and she couldn't take any time off work.

I have always loved dogs and soon realised that working with dogs was definitely what I wanted to do. I decided to take the plunge after receiving requests from other neighbours and from other dog owners who I met whilst out walking.

This was quite a change from my previous employment but I simply loved it and still do, whatever the weather!

I decided to study to become a dog trainer after being told that I was 'a natural' by a senior behaviourist at Battersea Dogs Home. I chose the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT), due to their expertise, reputation and force free methods.

Having taken several courses ranging from Canine Body Language, The Loose Lead Walking Masterclass and Behaviours Happen for a Reason, I then furthered my knowledge by studying Scent Detection with the Dog Training College.

I continue to walk dogs as I love my time with them as well as being outdoors and getting some exercise!

Certified Member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers.

The IMDT is the leading education provider for Dog Trainers and Behaviourists.

ALL IMDT Trainers have undergone a rigorous Assessment process to meet the high standards expected of any IMDT member and adhere to a Strict Code of Ethics to ensure both Owner’s and Dog’s training needs are met and exceeded in a positive and effective way

Frequently Asked Questions

What age should I start training my puppy?

We recommend starting training as early as 8 weeks old. Early training helps establish good habits and socialisation skills.

Please ensure that puppy’s are fully vaccinated before attending any training classes.

What methods do you use for obedience training?

We use positive reinforcement techniques, which involve rewarding desired behaviours to encourage repetition. This method is not only effective and humane but is scientifically proven to be the most successful way to train your dog whilst also helping to strengthen the positive bond between you.

How do you address behavioural issues?

We begin with a thorough assessment to understand the root cause of the issue and then develop a tailored training plan using humane and effective methods.

Dogs are individuals so there can't always be a one size fits all approach.

However, with confidence,  compassion, calmness and consistency, we can help your furry family member live their best life.

We think we're the best but don't take our word for it.

Here's what our clients say:

My dogs are always so pleased to greet Karen. They have the absolute best time when out for a walk and come home happy and tired. Karen controls the dogs she walks in a quiet and kind way and is very careful to choose the right mix of dogs to walk together.

My dogs are still young and Karen made a point of getting to know them properly by meeting us while out for a walk and in our home before arranging further walks. She has also provided helpful training advice and tips.

I know that Karen puts the safety and wellbeing of the dogs in her care as the utmost priority and I cannot recommend her highly enough.

We were really quite nervous when we first got our puppy, even though we'd done a bit of reading up etc. Karen explained and demonstrated so much to us that has helped enormously with raising our puppy. She made us far more confident and more knowledgeable and gave us some trouble shooting tips for the future, because of our personal situation. Thanks so much Karen, our sessions with you were invaluable.

D Coombes.

Karen is amazing with dogs, very kind, patient and knowledgeable. Her approach is to ensure the dogs in her groups work well together and can be safely off the lead when appropriate. She takes the dogs on long, varied and interesting walks, with sensible sized groups. My whippet is always so excited when she arrives and happily exhausted when he returns. She’s really helped with some of his young dog behaviours as well eg jumping up. Karen is always on time and never lets me down. I’m so pleased I found her, as is my whippet! 🐾🐕🐾

Loved our Scent Detection classes with Mrs Dogsbody. It was really useful to learn something that we can do with Milly , even when she's too old for long walks, or when the weather is bad, that's so enriching and mentally relaxing.  I feel as though we've really had our eyes opened to the importance of letting our dogs sniff and the benefits that it brings. It was great fun!

Leila Warwick

Such a connection with dogs and they listen to Karen, clearly trusting her. I haven't seen a dog yet that doesn't love and respect her. A fantastic trainer and walker for your dog.

Debbie Connell

Great classes, clearly explained and with a few bonus extras at the end. Our pups can be challenging but Karen seemed to know what to do in each situation.

My family calls Karen The Dog Whisperer because she can get our dog to do anything. He turns inside out with happiness when she collects him for walks.  She is completely reliable and never lets us down and we can relax knowing that our pup is receiving the best care.

Laura Birkenshaw

All I can say is that I'm so pleased that a friend recommended Karen to us. She spent time with us after we welcomed our new puppy into our house and gave us such a lot of confidence with him, showed us all the basic commands and explained how he learns. That was really useful and we've been able to use the learning in other ways ie barking at the tv.

We highly recommend!

Elizabeth White.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 puppy classes with Karen. Everything was clearly explained and she makes the effort to give individual attention to the attendees. The result was a far, far better behaved dog than we started with and it was evident that Rocco was totally in love with her by the end.  We are looking forward to her scent detection classes now.

Karen is fantastic with my greyhound's who always look forward to their walks with her. They are so excited when they hear her car pull up!
She has proven to very knowledgeable with behaviour, kind, completely reliable and genuinely passionate. My dogs means the world to me and I know that I can always trust Karen with my two :-)

I can’t tell you how happy and pleased I am to have found Karen. Took me a while to fully trust anyone to walk Alfie our working cocker spaniel. I would highly recommend Karen she is absolutely perfect and she is very caring with Alfie. She always turns up on time and tells me what other dogs Alfie will be socialising with. 🐕🐾🦮

Terms and Conditions:

The following policies are in the interests of all participants and their dogs and by registering for training with Mrs Dogsbody you agree to the following:
Please contact us before enrolling if your dog has reactivity issues. Dogs that have aggression and fear concerns will need one on one intervention before enrolling in a group class environment.

Keep your dog close to you and under control at all times.

Dogs are to be kept on a fixed lead with a well fitting collar unless instructed otherwise during a training exercise. Extendable leads are not suitable for training.

Do not allow your dog to approach other dogs. Despite the need for owners to socialise their dogs, a strange dog approaching a sensitive dog can cause them to show aggression as a defence strategy.

Mrs Dogsbody has the right to remove a dog and owner from the class (without a refund) if they feel the dog’s behaviour is not managed adequately by the owner and is therefore putting the other participants at risk.

Should a dog relieve themselves before or during training, anywhere in or outside the training area, the owner will need to clean up and dispose of the waste in a suitable bin.

All dogs should be fully protected by vaccination before attending training.

Do not bring a sick dog or a bitch in season to training. We encourage you to still attend on your own as most of the learning can be done without the dog present.

Harsh handling or any form of punishment will not be tolerated. If it continues after an initial warning, the dog and owner will be asked to leave (without a refund).

Choke chains, prong or E collars are not permitted.

Dogs learn at different speeds. Their breed, age and health can all have an effect. Please remember that training should be fun and our dogs are not in competition with the other dogs in the class.

The dog and any other person that is brought to training is the owner’s sole responsibility. Mrs Dogsbody cannot accept responsibility for any injury, loss or damage to person or property that occurs whilst attending training. Children over 10 are welcome and encouraged but they cannot attend on their own (without adult supervision) if under 18 years old.

To secure your booking, your registration form and payment will need to have been received before the course or 1-1 start date.

Refunds cannot be given after the course has started and are at the discretion of Mrs Dogsbody.

Should you be running late, please inform us of your delay if possible. It may still be feasible to run the session, although your session may not be extended beyond your booked slot. If for any reason you need to cancel your 1-1, please contact Karen as soon as you know, so we can offer your slot to another client. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice will still incur the full fee.

Please ensure that you dress appropriately. We only cancel those classes that involve outdoor work when the weather would make the experience unpleasant.

Mrs Dogsbody may take photos or videos for social media or advertising. If you do not wish to appear in photos or videos at all, please let us know at the beginning of an event.
